Mindfully Navigating CIRS Recovery with Meditation
A Talk by Melanie Joy Pensak M.S. CCC-SLP, CMT-P (Founder, Meditation for CIRS)
About this Talk
Learn how mindfulness meditation is an inexpensive, accessible and adaptable method to support the limbic system during CIRS recovery by improving responses to stress and fear.
Mindfulness practice also helps CIRS patients improve body awareness, build emotional resilience and recognize the inner critic of the mind, which can strongly impact treatment outcomes during recovery. With regular practice, meditators nourish the limbic system, find inner peace and discover the confidence to face the winding road back to health.
This talk is both educational and experiential, including guided meditations.
Participants will:
- Understand what mindfulness meditation is and isn’t
- Understand how mindfulness meditation impacts the brain, body, thoughts and emotions

- Set up a trauma-informed meditation environment that meets their physical and emotional needs
- Practice a short grounding and breath meditation on their own
- Understand what meditation to choose based on their personal needs
