Dr. Joseph Musto is our President, Director of Laboratory Medicine, Medical Director and Founder. Formerly, the Medical Director, Director of Laboratory Medicine, Founder and President of Diagnostic Laboratory Medicine for more than 20 years, then founded Microbiology Dx. Dr. Musto has been involved in laboratory medicine and methods development for clinical testing for over 50 years, with more than 20 publications and co-author of 7 issued patents. Dr. Musto earned a B.Sc. in Chemistry, M.Sc. in Organic and Physical Chemistry, the equivalent of an M.Sc. in Biomedical Science and a Doctorate in Medicinal Chemistry. Dr. Musto is a Board Certified Clinical Laboratory Director, and spent 10 years pre-and post-doctoral training in clinical laboratory science before establishing his first Clinical Pathology Laboratory in 1979. In addition, Dr. Musto is formerly an Associate Professor of Clinical Pathology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Bioanalysis (BCLD), a Board Certified Clinical Consultant (CC), a Fellow of the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry (FACB), a Fellow of the Association of Clinical Scientists, Federally Certified (CLIA) and State Certified (DPH) as a Clinical Laboratory Director and Clinical Consultant in the specialties of Clinical Pathology. He maintains his board certifications by attending continuing medical education conferences yearly. He holds a Certificate of Qualification from the New York State Department of Health as a Laboratory Director and additionally, has held certifications in Clinical Chemistry, Medical Technology (Clinical Laboratory Sciences), Bioanalysis and Infection Control. He is a Clinical Scientist Member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and has been Team Leader for the College of American Pathologists accreditation inspection teams. He has lectured extensively at local and national clinical meetings and to Clinical Pathology residents as well as RNs, LPNs and CNAs in the nursing home field relating laboratory medicine to patient care.
Dr. Musto also serves as the Clinical Laboratory Director for Brookside Clinical Laboratory in Aston, PA which is a full service Clinical Pathology Laboratory including PCR testing for respiratory pathogens including SARS-CoV-2. He also serves as the Clinical Laboratory Directory for Progene Dx, a genetic testing laboratory in Bedford, MA.
Additionally, he was a cofounder of Reference Diagnostics, Inc. (RDI) with Dr. Joseph Lawlor. RDI developed and marketed clinical assays for LDL-Cholesterol, Magnetic HDL-Cholesterol, Total Iron Binding Capacity and C – Reactive Protein.
From 2015 to 2023, Dr. Musto has conducted and written 19 clinical in vitro studies and written 8 reports related to the development of antimicrobials as a nasal spray for the treatment of nasal and sinus infections caused by bacteria, mold and yeast. Some of these products are currently used to treat CIRS (mold illness) patients for nasal MARCoNS following the Dr. R. Shoemaker protocol. In 2016 he developed a method for Biofilm Analysis testing of Multiple Antibiotic Resistant Coag Negative Staph in a nasal culture, for Dr. Ritchie Shoemakers’ protocol for Biotoxin Illness, and wrote a report on the validation of the method. In 2017, he wrote a report on Tick-Borne Disease, Prevention, Diagnosis and Treatment. In 2021, he wrote a comprehensive report entitled “A Review of Covid-19, Diagnosis, Diagnostic Testing and Treatment”. Also, in 2021 he wrote a report entitled “Natural Immunity vs. Vaccination of Covid-19. In 2023, he was certified as a CIRS Proficiency Partner Diplomat and received the Acclaimed Award from CIRx, a Biotoxin Illness Association. He is available for consultation.
